3/2/21 Update:
As the first team to host a COVID-19 testing event for project CATCH-UP, the Wilburton team was at it again, meeting the needs of their community on March 2nd. Based on community feedback, they expanded the services offered at their second testing event to include flu shots. And it wasn’t just the spring-like weather warming hearts, look at this smile from the next generation of dedicated community volunteers! Thank you Latimer County for continuing to lead the CATCH-UP efforts!
A phenomenal team of community volunteers came together this past Wednesday in Wilburton, despite freezing temperatures, to meet the needs of Latimer County for COVID-19 testing. As the first site in Oklahoma to host an event for project CATCH-UP (click here to learn more about CATCH-UP) this team, organized by Growth Counseling and Consulting @okgrowcc, proved they are capable of anything!
Drive-through testing was offered from 10 am – 2 pm for anyone, free of charge and regardless of symptoms. During this time, 59 community members were tested and Wilburton showed an inspiring commitment to join forces against the pandemic.
As a partner in CATCH-UP, the Public Health Institute of Oklahoma is honored to work with Latimer County. A huge thank you to the volunteers led by Growth Counseling and Consulting and to their employers who allowed them to participate in this important effort, including Cox Cable, Choctaw Nation Health Services, Department of Human Services, Enterprise Holdings and the local fire department.
And in the spirit of collaboration, the Latimer County team has actively engaged in the Community Partnership Program of CATCH-UP and is ready to share their experience and lessons learned with community organizations across the state that are preparing to host their own community testing events.
The Texas County coalition has been hard at work planning for the next CATCH-UP Community Testing Even in Guymon on Saturday, 12/19. To learn more about CATCH-UP and ways to get involved, including how to request an event in your community, visit publichealthk.org/programs
